How to Stop Clutter from Accumulating in Your Home Life: Tips and Tricks

There’s nothing worse than clutter. When you don’t have enough space in your home, even simple tasks—like doing laundry or preparing a meal—become overwhelming.

To help get you started on eliminating clutter in your home, we asked two professional organizers what they would tell busy moms about keeping things organized when time is tight. Here are their answers:

Get Rid of it

It can be tough to get rid of sentimental items, but if it’s not something you use on a regular basis (once per month or more), chances are that if it isn’t serving any purpose in your life, it should probably go.

Even if that old teddy bear once meant something to you—just toss it out! You’ll thank yourself later.

If you really want to keep it, store it somewhere else and then leave it there; your closet has better things to offer.

Make Decisions

Think through each item before making a decision as to whether you need it.

Ask yourself how often you wear that shirt, will anyone else benefit from using those books? What do I gain by hanging onto these shoes?

Again, if an item hasn’t been used in over three months (or at all) — get rid of it!

Things won’t improve unless you make a commitment to eliminating clutter.

The less you own, the less stress your life will hold.
